Vasakhi 2005 Runs Gather Lore
After the first successful Junior Vasakhi run with the Gurpuri kids at Jungle Lodge, Gombak, in 2003 and the second at La Gong in 2004, our Junior Hashers have once again put their minds and muscles together to organise the third run. |
 |
It was held on July 24. The run site was La Gong in Selayang - the land of leeches. The day started early at 7.00 with Uncle Jay organising the bus for the pick up at Gurpuri Home and arrived at the run site by 8.15 a.m.
Fresh outdoor brewed masala tea and home made coffee latte and milo were served by Aunty Mahinder and gang, together with a light breakfast of curry puffs, uppuma, idli and char kuih teow. Slowly our junior horrors started to come in. As usual Uncle Charles started the run at 9.30 a.m. The hares for this special run were Sonia, Sunil and Shaun (Uncle Jay’s horrors). The run was set by three kids from Gurpuri Home under Uncle Charles’s supervision. It is very kind of the hares and co-hares to set a short run for the Gurpuri kids to enjoy themselves but I think it is too short for our horrors. Rights kids? Most of them returned with leeches happily having their fill. Biasalah! This is La Gong.

The Gurpuri Home, located in Jalan Ulu Kelang, is a children’s home for orphans, children of single parents and the poor. Our Juniors, known as the ‘Little Horrors’, run the last Sunday of each month. |
 |
| Once a year they show that they really do care by inviting kids from the Gurpuri Home to join them in the fun and frolic of our junior run. |
|
The kids were out by 10.30 a.m. More refreshments were served and continuation of breakfast. Some of the kids jumped into the stream to cool off while others made a dam, hoping that it will turn into a swimming pool.
The circle started at about 11.30 a.m. Besides our regular hash songs, the kids from the Gurpuri home came prepared and sang some Punjabi songs for the on down.
During the circle, lots of ice cold water was splashed on the sinners. Our new kid in hash, Mandip Singh (father is Uncle Kesh) aka ‘Big Mouth’ (hash name) was put on ice for being a loud mouth and he even challenged the Junior Convenor (Uncle Charles). |
 |
A good vegetarian lunch was served at about 12.30 p.m., after which all the kids continued with their games and fun. As for the Gurpuri kids, they were given a bar of chocolate each and we also packed all the extra food and snacks for them to take back for tea. They left the site at 2.00 p.m., and said they looked forward to next year’s run. As requested by the kids a new site will be chosen.
Our horrors also started to leave after the gotong-royong clean-up. The daddies helped to clean up ‘Daddy’s Corner.’ Some of the kids and daddies played football until 3.00 p.m.

For those kids and parents who could not make it, you missed a good run of much fun.
A big word of thanks to donors and parents for the breakfast, fruit and chocolate and thanks for the support from the Junior Hash families. |
