Foundation
Gurpuri
is a home for the underprivileged,
orphan and neglected children of our Nation. We are the first Sikh welfare
children's home in the world outside India. Gurpuri, as you all know
by now, connotes the meaning of the 'Place of the Guru'. The organisation
of Gurpuri has been put together to ensure that these unfortunate children
are provided with the necessities of life, in a good up-bringing. Our
aim and objectives are to care
for and to extend a helping hand in shaping, educating and developing
the jewels of our Nation, for a better tomorrow, therefore, touching
the future.
The
Beginning
Gurpuri's humble
initiation was to provide a solution for the growing number of underprivileged,
orphan and neglected children. It crystallised and took form when a
generous individual offered one of his properties to house these children.
It began in June 2000 with its then name Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Gurpuri.
It was officially launched in October 2000 after obtaining the blessings
of Guru Ji.
Gurpuri
Today
With the support
and blessings of Guru Ji and the many donors and well wishers across
Malaysia and Singapore, Gurpuri has grown. What was once a house for
18 children has grown to become a home for 47 children. In this short
period of 2 years special care and emphasis was given to shape these
children who were lacking in many aspects. The most noted development
is seen in the education aspect, both formal and religious. The employment
of professional educationalist is part of our on going effort in continuing
to achieve educational excellence and their results show they have obtained
self-realisation that "better grades lead to a better future."
While showing
improvement in their education they have also sharpened their social
abilities. They have participated in "Samelan", "hola-mahala"
events and games. They have won numerous trophies in atheletics and
soccer. They have also displayed their stage and drama skills in our
Charity Dinner held in April 2002.
Gurpuri
Foundation
With Guru Ji's blessings,
on 13th May 2002, the Malaysian government granted us a foundation status.
We are now known as 'Gurpuri Foundation'.
Everyone here at Gurpuri
looks forward to your continued support and contributions in cash and
kind to the well-being of our children.
